As a young Mechanical Engineer graduate from India back in 2010, little did I know that I would be spending the winter of 2016 near the cold fjords of Norway. It has been quiet a journey from the busy streets of Mumbai where I was working as a project planner to the calm canals of Delft, where I completed my Master’s Degree in Fluid Mechanics.
With the arrival of Spring 2016, along came an opportunity to start as a Technical Trainee with Visser & Smit Hanab. I felt this would give me great deal of exposure towards the working culture in Netherlands, getting to the know the company and personnel while I learn the trade in the Drilling, Transportation and Pipeline Industry.
I started with the Drilling department, learning the different commercial aspects of business for couple of months before moving to a project site in Mongstad, Norway. As a trainee, I have enjoyed my freedom to ask numerous questions, feed my curiosity and lend a hand technically where feasible. I believe this experience is helping me understand the various aspects of a drilling project from the tender phase to project management on site and even customer relations & interactions from time to time. I look forward to continue my journey in this traineeship to groom myself into a future project manager & more.
